Located in the village of Indian Hill, Turner Farm is the largest certified organic farm in the Cincinnati area. The farm has been in operation since the early 1800s and in 1994, under the stewardship of Bonnie Mitsui, it became a farm devoted to growing organically. The farm is home to a variety of plants and animals, both domestic and wild. There are open pastures for the sheep and chickens interspersed with gardens and fields. Turner Farm is also home to one of the nation’s premier teaching kitchens and provides educational opportunities for community members who want to bring the Turner Farm ethos of stewardship into their own kitchens.
A farm is nothing without its community. The Cincinnati area is blessed with many great farmers, chefs, and farm suppliers. And when we lose one, as we have this week, the loss is profound. Turner Farm and each of our employees extends our condolences to Susan’s family and the team at Bethel Feed & Supply. We are less without her and very grateful for her many contributions.
“In short, when the subjects were on the minimally processed diet, they took in significantly fewer calories and lost nearly a kilogram, or about two pounds, over two weeks. On the processed diet, they ate more and gained nearly a kilogram. Currently, according to a 2016 study cited by the NIH authors, ultra-processed foods provide nearly 60 percent of calories consumed by Americans.”
