Pasture Raised Chicken

We raise Cornish Rock Cross chickens from Mt. Healthy Hatcheries, a hybrid developed from Cornish and White Rock genetics that is known for efficient growth, feed conversion, and excellent breast, thigh, and leg proportions. Their diet consists primarily of locally grown, freshly ground non-GMO grain sourced from Bethel Feed & Supply, along with the fresh forage they naturally consume while on pasture. Our chickens are never given hormones or unnecessary feed additives and still consistently finish at a healthy live weight of around 7–7.5 pounds in just 7–8 weeks.

During their first few fragile weeks of life, the chicks are carefully brooded under heat lamps to ensure they stay warm, healthy, and protected as they develop feathers and strength. Once ready, they are moved outdoors into portable pasture shelters known as “chicken tractors.” These movable coops provide protection from predators while allowing the birds access to fresh pasture every single day. We move the tractors twice daily so the chickens always have clean ground and fresh access to grasses, clover, seeds, and insects, encouraging natural scratching and foraging behaviors.

This rotational system benefits not only the chickens, but also the land itself. As the birds move across pasture, their nitrogen- and phosphorus-rich manure naturally fertilizes the soil, helping improve pasture health for the rest of our livestock. By combining fresh air, sunshine, quality nutrition, and low-stress handling, we’re able to raise chickens in a way that supports both animal welfare and regenerative farming practices. When it’s time for processing, we personally transport them to King and Sons Poultry.
