Butterflies are particularly important to us here at Turner Farm. The FFS is the #1952 “Turn Farm Nectar Hub” Waystation on the national Monarch Watch registry. We plant hundreds of Milkweed annually to help support a healthy ecosystem for the Monarch to use as a nursery and way station along their great trip, directly over our region.
Students will receive 2 Plastic milk jugs that they will plant up with Monarch’s favorite fuel for the great migration to Mexico; Milkweed, as well as a few supporting plant seeds for all nectar loving butterflies!
Let’s kick off the gardening season thinking of our four-winged, six-legged insect friends.
In this class, you will learn to create a garden that butterflies adore -- and you will also
enjoy! This garden will be an important habitat for butterflies and hummingbirds and fill
your yard with colorful flowers.
Winter is the perfect time to start milkweed for the Monarch Butterflies. We will give you
the basic tools you need to create your butterfly garden, including native milkweed seeds
collected from Turner Farm. We will also supply potting soil, seeds to grow other butterfly
favorites, and instructions for growing the milkweed and creating a Monarch-friendly
landscape.
No Food or Wine.
