





Gardening Basics for the Home & Community Gardener (6 Class Series)
Class Series Overview
During this interactive workshop series, we will grow together in knowledge, community, and well-being. On-site garden basics will be explored together at the Price Hill Community Garden. We will also utilize the study rooms at the Price Hill Branch Library located next to the community garden. Class topics include site selection, soil preparation, seed starting, pest management, harvesting for healthy eating, nutrition and more.
To inspire and sustain a lifetime of gardening, our training approach to home and community gardening is supported by classes to provide a foundation of knowledge and hands-on gardening experiences in community gardens. To support you in successfully gardening at home, or in a community garden, we will provide supplemental handouts that outline gardening best practices.
Classes are FREE and open to the public, with advance registration. See below for registration information.

Class topics: Gardening in partnership with nature, soil sampling, selecting a location and creating a layout for your garden using different options for building raised garden beds.

Feeding the Soil & Tools of the Trade
Instructors: Lauren Wulker and Peter Huttinger, Turner Farm Community Garden Program
Saturday June 3, 10am-12pm
Class topics: Understanding the components of healthy soil and preparing garden beds for planting and growing. Evaluating soil fertility and using techniques such as composting, cover crops, and green manure to improve overall health of the soil. Garden tools and their storage, and maintenance.

Seed Selection & Seed Starting

Class topics: Biodiversity in the garden, seed selection, and techniques for getting seeds started. Directly sowing seeds in the garden and growing seedlings to transplant in cell packs. How to read a seed packet and when seed starting may not be an option how to identify and source healthy plants.
