Workshop: Beyond the loaf - Sourdough from start to finish, Everything from its life cycles to its uses. (May 8)

Explore the full life of a sourdough starter, from young and active to mature and discard-friendly. In this class, you’ll learn how to care for your starter and use it in a range of recipes including breads, pancakes, crackers, and more. We’ll discuss fermentation timing, hydration levels, and how sourdough can be part of a sustainable, flavor-rich kitchen.

A deep dive into this probiotic powerhouse.
Discover how to make your own milk kefir, care for live kefir grains, and use this tangy, cultured ingredient in cooking. We’ll cover the basics of its fermentation process, flavoring options, and gut-friendly applications, from smoothies and dips to overnight oats and marinades. Workshop: Kombucha Brewing 101 -Fermentation & Flavor (April 18)
Learn the art of brewing kombucha and discover how this probiotic-rich, micro-biome-friendly drink can support digestion and overall wellness. In this hands-on class, you’ll master brewing, fermenting, and flavoring while learning to care for your kombucha over the 7-12-day fermentation cycle.
We’ll cover everything from selecting the proper tea and sugar to maintaining a healthy SCOBY, fermenting for optimal probiotics, and bottling for perfect carbonation. You’ll also sample different flavor combinations and create a custom infusion at home.

Spring Floral Design with Wine (May 21)
Come by yourself or come with friends. Meet in the Turner Farm Barn Studio and enjoy appetizers and wine while watching a spring flower arranging demonstration by Melinda O’Briant. We will head to the Turner Farm flower field where you will select your favorites from Turner Farm’s beautiful early season flowers. Featured flowers will be tall and stately Larkspur in shades of blue, purple, pink, and salmon; and fluffy Sweet William’s in pinks, purples and reds. You will also select from Yarrow, Bachelor Buttons, Bupleurum and more. Back in the Barn Studio, we will each create a masterpiece to take home and enjoy.
If rain threatens, flowers will be cut and waiting in the barn for participants.

In the third installment of our Brain Health series, we turn our attention to focus, literally. This hands-on class explores how targeted nutrition can support cognitive performance, memory retention, and sustained mental clarity. Together, we’ll cook a vibrant, seasonal meal designed around key nutrients that nourish the brain and help reduce brain fog, from omega-3s and antioxidants to magnesium-rich greens and gut-supportive ferments.
Participants will engage in guided conversation, cooking instruction, and a shared meal that’s as satisfying as it is brain-smart. Whether you’re juggling work, juggling school,
caregiving, or just plain busy this class offers real strategies to help you stay sharp and centered through food.

Herbs and How to Use Them (May 28)
Are you interested in growing herbs and/or using herbs more often in your day-to-day life? The use of herbs for flavor and health benefits is recorded as far back as the bronze age, and documented in archeology as far back as the earliest hunter and gatherer cultures. This class goes into detail on the history of the use of herbs, their applications in the kitchen ranging from herbal salts and a myriad of sauces; Medicinal uses including tinctures and infusions; but also you will learn how to start and grow your own herbs, and the materials and supplies for your own terracotta kitchen planter.
Chef TJ will be preparing lamb shoulder tea sandwiches with a parsley-walnut chimichurri, lavender and basil-infused lemonade, and lavender fudge petit fours.

This hands-on workshop is designed to provide participants with the necessary skills to effectively work with a horse on a farm. Topics covered will include: horse behavior and body language, proper handling and grooming techniques, basic horse training commands, single horse driving principles, harnessing and hitching. Whether you are new to working with horses or looking to enhance your existing skills, this workshop will equip you with the tools to successfully work with these intelligent and versatile animals on the farm.
This workshop is appropriate for anyone interested in gaining basic knowledge and understanding of driving draft horses. Horse experience is helpful though not required.

Topics covered will include: horse behavior and body language, proper handling and grooming techniques, basic horse training commands, single horse driving principles, harnessing and hitching. Chicken Stock Masterclass: The Foundation of Great Cooking (April 24)
A well-made chicken stock is the backbone of countless dishes, providing depth, richness, and complexity to soups, sauces, and braises. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of crafting a flavorful, homemade stock from scratch. We’ll explore ingredient selection, techniques for extracting maximum flavor, and the key differences between white and brown stock.
Participants will gain practical experience in preparing stock, balancing aromatics, and mastering simmering techniques. We’ll also cover essential tips on straining, storing, and using stock to elevate everyday cooking.
Since an entire stock requires extended simmering, we’ll have a finished batch ready for tasting and comparison while students start their stock to take home. By the end of the class, you’ll leave with a quart of your freshly made stock and the confidence and knowledge to make this essential kitchen staple anytime.

Spend and enjoyable evening learning to create a butterfly garden. Landscaping a small area can provide much need habitat for many butterfly species. Not only can you attract butterflies, and hummingbirds, but your yard will be filled with colorful flowers. Learn about starting milkweeds for monarchs, which flowers are the most attractive to butterflies, and which plants to plant for butterfly caterpillars. Build Your Own Terrarium (March 22)
In this class, we explore the history and foundations of how to grow a Terrarium at home. Since the Georgian age of plant travel, the Terrarium has been a key component for the shipping, propagation and keeping exotic plants. Using miniature cultivars, and easy-to-propagate plants, we will shape a Terrarium into the perfect habitat for small plant life. A large glass jar and planting supplies will be included.
Please bring any minerals, tchotchke or decor that you want to include to make your own Terrarium your very own.

Have the joy, and satisfaction of starting your own vegetable, herb, or flowers from seed. Starting from seeds, affords the gardener a much wider, and better selection of plant varieties. Learn and experience the ins and outs, and special techniques to this rewarding hobby. The class will cover which plants should be started ahead of time, and which seeds should be planted directly in the ground. The class will cover the best time to plant each crop in the Cincinnati area, as well as tips to coax difficult seeds to germinate. Each participant will take home a flat of seedlings to nurture.
